Rolling Hype: The Journey of Walker Jackson
Published on: December 3rd, 2024
When you think of country music, you might picture wide-open fields and heartfelt lyrics. But for me, country music is just one stop on a lifelong journey through sound. With a foundation rooted in the classics and a spirit shaped by rock, pop, and even Scandinavian metal, my music is as diverse as the genres that inspire me.
I was born and raised in Abilene, Texas, and grew up surrounded by the sounds of Queen, Led Zeppelin, and The Oak Ridge Boys, thanks to my parents’ record player. My teenage years were a whirlwind of musical discovery—from Garth Brooks to Guns N’ Roses and from Dr. Dre to Metallica. This eclectic blend of influences became the cornerstone of my unique style.
In high school, my love for the bass guitar took center stage. Inspired by legends like Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Cliff Burton of Metallica, I joined my school’s jazz band, mastering both the electric and standup bass. Over the years, my artistry expanded, but my heart always found its way back to the storytelling soul of country music.
Today, I’m not just making music—I’m crafting experiences. My ability to weave together the threads of my past with the contemporary sounds of today sets me apart in a crowded landscape. From the release of my album Cliche to my latest single "Holding on to Something," my music is a testament to perseverance and authenticity.
I’m thrilled to share that Rolling Hype recently published an in-depth feature about my journey in music. If you’re curious to learn more about the influences, experiences, and passion that fuel my work, check out the article on Rolling Hype.
